The Ministry of Tourism and Wildlife Management announced on its Facebook page on Saturday, 19 September 2026 that Kenya will welcome the international tourism community for UN Tourism Week 2026, a people‑driven celebration of the nation’s culture, creativity and tourism experiences.
The week’s programme will centre on the role of technology in tourism, examining how digital platforms, data‑driven destination management, artificial intelligence and smart travel services are transforming the industry.
Officials said the discussions aim to demonstrate how digital transformation can broaden access to tourism markets while supporting sustainable development, attracting investment, fostering inclusion and creating jobs, and will also explore ways to build more resilient tourism systems through innovation.
A hybrid format will combine physical and virtual engagements, featuring cultural showcases, live events, immersive storytelling, virtual interaction and opportunities for visitors to connect with communities across Kenya, thereby extending participation beyond those attending in person.
By placing communities and cultural heritage at the centre of the celebrations, the ministry expects the event to promote Kenya’s tourism and creative economy to a global audience and to encourage collaboration among policymakers, industry leaders, development partners and other stakeholders on technology, sustainability and inclusive growth.
