“It seems a clear and precise mandate is emerging: we must build pathways of peace; war gets us nowhere. Weapons drive peace away,” Conte said, stressing that the country should move away from militarisation.
He added that investment must focus on the real needs of citizens, families and businesses, rejecting a “war economy” and any re‑armament programme, and urging resources to be directed toward social and economic welfare.
Conte argued that, in the nation’s moment of greatest suffering, the groundwork has been laid to create “sites of hope” – nurseries, schools, research centres, universities and innovation projects – rather than “sites of war” and arsenals full of weapons.
