Representing the state government, counsel argued that same‑sex relationships "affect the natural and traditional framework of society" and are not socially accepted.
After interacting with the couple, the court observed that they were adults choosing to live together without pressure, fear, or undue influence, and invoked Supreme Court jurisprudence that live‑in relationships constitute a fundamental right for consenting adults.
The order underscored that family members, relatives, or any segment of society have no legal right to disrupt or violate the physical liberty of adult citizens, reinforcing legal protection for LGBTQ+ couples in India.
