Paramedics responded to the Moda apartment complex on Fairway Drive at about 5 p.m. after receiving reports that a child had been shot. The boy was treated at the scene in critical condition before being transferred to a nearby hospital, where his condition was later described as serious.
Five other occupants were present in the apartment at the time of the incident, but none were injured. Police have confirmed the shooting occurred inside the home, but investigators have not yet determined what triggered the discharge of the firearm or who fired it.
Officers are exploring the possibility that the gun may have been accidentally discharged, either by the boy himself or by another child residing in the apartment. No arrests have been made, and the identity of the weapon’s owner has not been disclosed.
A large exclusion zone was established on Fairway Drive as several police vehicles and a police helicopter were deployed to the scene. Tactical units entered the building while residents gathered outside, watching the police operation unfold.
The Moda complex, developed by Arden Group, comprises 217 one‑, two‑ and three‑bedroom apartments and is marketed as a “luxury lifestyle” residence. It is located adjacent to the Castle Hill Country Club and two blocks from Norwest Station.
