The incident occurred at about 10 p.m. on Aug. 30 when a man reportedly threatened other passengers aggressively on a train travelling from Cambridge Heath to Hackney Downs. During the confrontation, a passenger was punched, prompting other commuters to intervene and the train to be halted.
British Transport Police (BTP) officers have since released a photograph of the suspect and are urging anyone who recognises him to come forward. They are also seeking to speak with the victim who was punched, as well as any witnesses who saw the altercation.
Anyone with information is asked to contact BTP by texting 61016 or calling 0800 40 50 40, quoting reference 2600115301. Tips can also be submitted anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
Transport‑related assaults have risen in recent months, and BTP stresses that swift public cooperation is vital to deter future incidents and bring perpetrators to justice. The police investigation remains ongoing.
