The three‑part ownership group announced on Wednesday that Winx, the 15‑year‑old former champion who retired in 2019 after a 33‑race winning streak and $26.45 million in earnings, delivered the filly at Coolmore’s facility in Ireland after a night‑time birth on Tuesday.
Kepitis said Winx was three weeks overdue, but “everything went well”. She added that the mare was scanned before delivery, allowing the team to confirm the foal’s health, and that Winx has “bounced back well and is nice and comfortable”.
Winx’s breeding record has been mixed. Her first foal, a colt by I Am Invincible, was lost in 2020. She later produced a filly by Pierro and a colt by Snitzel, the latter of which was withdrawn from the Inglis Easter Yearling Sale after a paddock accident. The new filly, by Too Darn Hot, marks the first time the mare could become a grandmother.
Part‑owner Debbie Kepitis, who paid $10 million for Winx’s first filly, Quinceanera, in 2024, noted that the filly never raced due to colic and was retired to begin a broodmare career. Kepitis also highlighted her small share in New Zealand stallion Super Seth, recently acquired by Coolmore, and expressed hope that the stallion will soon be in foal.
The future of Winx’s Snitzel colt remains undecided. Kepitis said the colt will spend another month or two on a water walker before a final decision is made about his next steps.
If the new filly survives to adulthood, Winx will join an elite group of mares that have produced a second generation of racehorses, adding another chapter to her already storied legacy.
