In Bengaluru, industry observers said the Chinese government’s refusal to export advanced lithium‑iron‑phosphate (LFP) cell technology is compelling Amara Raja and JSW to temper their plans to produce the cells domestically.

Experts, however, argue that Indian firms possess the capability to develop LFP cells from scratch without Chinese assistance, noting that the technology is now widely disseminated, but they warn that rapid advances in the sector make speed essential.

The slowdown comes as the Indian government seeks to launch a domestic battery‑manufacturing ecosystem to meet its clean‑energy and electric‑vehicle targets, and the curbed ambitions represent a blow to those policy goals.

Both companies had been positioning themselves to become key suppliers for India’s growing EV market, but the lack of access to the latest Chinese know‑how may force them to rely on slower, home‑grown development pathways.
