CPI(M) leader and former minister P. Rajeeve publicly accused Kerala Chief Minister V. D. Satheesan of facilitating the BJP's political agenda by directing a police investigation into the CMRL‑Exalogic alleged payoff case that centres on opposition leader and former chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan, his daughter T. Veena and son‑in‑law former minister P. A. Mohamed Riyas.
Rajeeve said the move is intended to weaken the CPI(M) and create a foothold for the BJP in Kerala, arguing that the CM's justification—that the inquiry is mandatory under Supreme Court rulings and information from the Enforcement Directorate (ED)—serves BJP's vested interests.
He pointed to precedents in Punjab, Tamil Nadu and West Bengal where state governments rebuffed similar ED attempts to target opposition leaders, describing those actions as overreach of a central agency beyond state powers.
Rajeeve urged the national leadership of the Congress party to clarify whether the United Democratic Front (UDF) coalition in Kerala is acting in line with Congress policy or is effectively aligning with BJP objectives.
The controversy adds to ongoing political tension in Kerala, where the CPI(M)-led Left Democratic Front and the UDF are vying for influence, and comes amid broader national debates over the role of the ED and the Supreme Court in political investigations.
