The directive was issued after a meeting attended by the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) Commissioner, the Commissioner of Police and the Vice‑Chairman of the Delhi Development Authority (DDA), according to a Lok Niwas press release.
The order follows the brutal assault on Monday at Astha Kunj Park near Kalkaji Mandir, where three men who pretended to be police officers allegedly gang‑raped the teenager. All three suspects were arrested on Tuesday and a city court remanded them to two days of judicial custody on Wednesday, though the police have not yet applied for their continued custody.
The safety audit will examine lighting, the deployment of guards at all entry and exit points, patrolling inside parks—especially after sunset—and the condition of cleanliness and sanitation facilities. Authorities have also been asked to explore handing over some parks to residents’ welfare associations or private entities for better upkeep.
Officials have been told to seek feedback from nearby schools, colleges and other institutions, and to ensure regular visits by beat constables and police personnel responsible for each area to strengthen security.
The DDA said its field staff and security teams have been directed to maintain heightened vigilance during evening and night hours, restrict late‑evening access at parks with multiple gates, identify dark spots, install additional lighting and CCTV cameras, and coordinate closely with Delhi police to monitor suspicious activity.
In a separate decision at the 70th governing body meeting of the Unified Traffic and Transportation Infrastructure (Planning & Engineering) Centre, the Lieutenant‑Governor also approved six multi‑modal integration plans for metro stations and two road projects aimed at improving last‑mile connectivity and easing congestion.
