The launch, held at the Cooptex showroom in the Anna Commercial Complex, was attended by senior Cooptex officials and local weavers. Durgamoorthi said the state government will support the drive with a special 30 percent discount on silk and cotton handloom varieties to boost sales.
The exhibition showcases a wide array of handloom products, including silk saris, cotton saris, organic saris, cotton dhotis and bedspreads. Traditional designs such as Kancheepuram, Arani, Salem, Thirubhuvanam silk saris, soft silk and Kora cotton saris from Coimbatore, as well as Sungudi saris, silk dhotis and other regional handloom items from Coimbatore, Kancheepuram, Chettinad, Salem, Paramakudi, Dindigul, Chinnalapatti and Aruppukottai are on display.
Last year the Cooptex outlets in Dindigul recorded sales of ₹1.01 crore, meeting the previous target. This year’s higher goal reflects both the expanded product range and the government’s discount scheme.
Customers can also purchase Cooptex textiles online through the official portal www.cooptex.gov.in, a channel the collector highlighted as a convenient option for wider reach.
In a parallel event in Theni district, Collector R. Vaithinathan inaugurated a similar Cooptex Deepavali sale near the old bus stand in Theni‑Allinagaram, setting a district target of ₹75.50 lakh after achieving ₹61.02 lakh the previous year.
Both collectors urged the public to support the handloom sector, emphasizing that increased sales will directly improve the livelihoods of local weavers.
