The surprise raids, code‑named “Operation Kalikkalam,” were ordered by VACB director Manoj Abraham after the agency received information alleging irregularities in the functioning of the sports councils.
According to official sources, the bureau was alerted to possible procedural violations in the selection of sportspersons, including alleged manipulation of marks, fabrication of competition results and undue influence over judges and observers to secure benefits for ineligible athletes.
Investigators also received complaints about the excessive collection of entry and registration fees for competitions, with claims that proper accounts and receipts were not maintained.
The inspection is probing the procurement of sports equipment and other materials funded by the government, focusing on alleged breaches of prescribed procedures, manipulation of stock records, purchases and storage of items without genuine need, and the diversion or unauthorised sale of equipment.
As part of VACB’s Project Zero – a drive aimed at achieving a corruption‑free Keralam through proactive vigilance – the inquiry extends to the use of resources at sports academies, hostels and training centres, including alleged misuse of food supplies, mess allowances and training funds.
Further allegations involve the receipt of funds in the name of non‑functioning training centres and the diversion of monies earmarked for government schemes to other purposes.
The bureau has not disclosed any arrests or seizures at this stage, but the inspections are expected to generate detailed reports that could lead to disciplinary action or legal proceedings against officials found responsible.
