The raid, conducted across 18 establishments in the Mumbai, Pune, Nashik, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar and Nagpur divisions, targeted more than 10,800 kg/litres of ghee, khawa, sweets, oil, tea powder and other food items that authorities said were either adulterated, mislabeled or stored under unhygienic conditions.
Among the Mumbai outlets whose licences were revoked was BJRS (Gallops) Restaurant at Mahalaxmi Racecourse. Inspectors found blood and ketchup stains from non‑vegetarian food on ice stored in a refrigerator, damaged packaging, grease buildup, stagnant water, live cockroaches, ants, inadequate drainage covers and no records of medical examinations or vaccinations for food handlers.
The largest seizure was recorded at Gurukrupa Dairy Products in Malad East, where food products and equipment valued at roughly ₹15.15 lakh were confiscated. The FDA alleged that the firm was blending refined sunflower oil, vanaspati and branded ghee in boilers to produce counterfeit white and yellow ghee sold under the label “Pooja Ghee”, and inspectors also reported rats and cockroaches on the premises.
In Chandrapur, officials seized 3,310 kg of tea powder worth about ₹6.76 lakh from the godown of Ashok Agro Products on suspicion that the product was unsafe or substandard.
Other Mumbai establishments facing action included Gufran Seekh Corner in Versova, which was operating without a valid food licence; Dreamer Hospitality Pvt Ltd in Bandra West; and Mirari, also in Bandra West. All three were cited for violations of hygiene and health provisions, with further legal steps pending.
The crackdown also yielded smaller seizures of jaggery, peda, khoya, ghee, paneer, sweets, edible oil and spices in Pune, Sangli, Kolhapur, Jalgaon, Nanded, Gondia, Gadchiroli and Nagpur, underscoring the breadth of the FDA’s enforcement drive.
FDA Commissioner Tukaram Mundhe said the agency will continue to act against establishments that sell or store expired, tampered or otherwise unsafe food, or prepare food under unhygienic conditions, especially as the festive season approaches.
