Panettiere’s body was discovered in August, and investigators found pressed pills that tested positive for fentanyl on a table beside her, along with a straw and a bag of white powder hidden in the sunglasses case of her suitcase.
The coroner’s report, obtained by TMZ on Tuesday, listed fentanyl, its precursor 4‑ANPP, alprazolam, methocarbamol and quetiapine as the substances that contributed to her death. Alprazolam is commonly prescribed for anxiety, methocarbamol is a muscle relaxant, and quetiapine is used to treat mood disorders such as depression, bipolar disorder and schizophrenia.
According to the examiner, the actress’s body had turned a deep purple hue, a sign of severe circulatory collapse associated with opioid toxicity. The combined toxic effects of the drugs were deemed the direct cause of death.
The manner of death was officially ruled an accident, closing the investigation into the circumstances surrounding the actress’s passing.
