Judge Nagarajan granted bail to Inspector Dileepan and five constables after they filed applications, but warned that the bail could be revoked and their assets seized if they fail to cooperate with the ongoing investigation.
Delison, a resident of Krishnarajapuram near Manamadurai, was arrested on the night of March 5 for allegedly hacking two individuals in Zion Nagar. He was taken to Government Rajaji Hospital in Madurai with injuries and died despite medical treatment.
Police initially claimed Delison fell from a bridge while trying to escape, but his family staged continuous protests, alleging he was assaulted by police. A post‑mortem report documented injuries at 28 sites on his body.
Following the death, Inspector Dileepan, Sub‑Inspector Guhan and constables Mahendran, Kaleeswaran, Deiventhiran and Palaniyappan were suspended. The Central Bureau of Criminal Investigation Department (CBCID) registered a murder case under the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act and filed a chargesheet on June 18, alleging the officers took Delison to a forest area, beat his leg with an iron rod, caused a bone fracture and a fatal fat embolism, and then falsified the bridge‑fall narrative.
The trial is proceeding in the Sivaganga Special Court for SC/ST Atrocities. After the bail hearing, the judge adjourned the case to October 9, reiterating that any attempt by the accused to abscond or obstruct the probe would result in severe punitive measures.
