The renewed agreement, announced by Syngene’s managing director and CEO Peter Bains, broadens the scope of joint work across the entire drug‑development lifecycle, from early discovery and translational science to pharmaceutical manufacturing, clinical trials, and data‑technology support.
Bains said the long‑term extension allows both companies to plan new capabilities and infrastructure with a decade‑long horizon, adding strategic value to the partnership that began in 1998 and led to the creation of the Biocon‑Bristol Myers Squibb Research and Development Center (BBRC) in 2009.
Payal Sheth, senior vice‑president of therapeutic discovery sciences at Bristol Myers Squibb, emphasized that the collaboration is “instrumental in advancing our scientific ambitions” and will help accelerate the delivery of transformative medicines to patients worldwide.
The BBRC, described by Bains as a major strategic R&D site for Bristol Myers Squibb, will continue to serve as the focal point for the expanded activities, reinforcing the companies’ joint commitment to scientific excellence and operational reliability.
Both firms indicated that the extended partnership is intended to streamline the transition from research to commercialization, potentially shortening development timelines for new therapies and strengthening their competitive position in the global biopharma market.
