The National Fish & Chip Awards, now in their 39th year, have selected 40 takeaways from across the United Kingdom after a comprehensive assessment that measured everything from the quality of the fish and chips and hygiene standards to customer service, sustainability practices and overall business operations.
Among the shortlisted entrants are three London‑based shops, which will join the other top‑ranked chippies in a head‑to‑head competition for the coveted Takeaway of the Year 2027 prize.
Andrew Crook, president of the National Federation of Fish Fryers (NFFF), said the shortlist reflects “talent, passion, excellent professionalism and dedication to their craft” and highlighted that the awards celebrate the people behind the businesses as much as the food itself.
The awards programme also recognises a range of other categories, including Restaurant of the Year, Young Fish Frier of the Year, Newcomer of the Year, Field to Frier, Mobile Operator of the Year and Environmental and Sustainable Business, underscoring the sector’s breadth and its growing focus on sustainability.
Crook added that recognition “is about far more than trophies – it’s about acknowledging the individuals who go above and beyond for their customers and communities every single day,” suggesting that a win could boost the profile of the winning shop and reinforce the cultural importance of the fish‑and‑chip tradition.
