British Foreign Secretary Ed Miliband told Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi that the UK would not accept intimidation, threats or other hostile activity on British soil by groups linked to Iran, Sky News reported on September 24, citing the British Foreign Office.
The ministers met in New York on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly. According to the report, they discussed the war in the Middle East, reopening the Strait of Hormuz and Britain’s response to threats attributed to Iran-linked groups. The Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office did not immediately respond to a Reuters request for comment.
The warning came after Britain’s National Cyber Security Centre said Iranian state-linked actors had used CHOSEN BRICK spyware in spear-phishing campaigns on messaging platforms including WhatsApp and Telegram to obtain emails, messages and other sensitive information. The source did not establish that the cyber activity and the groups raised in Miliband’s meeting were the same actors.
