At an event at the French embassy in Athens, Nicolas Kassianidis (Νικόλας Κασσιανίδης), France’s new ambassador to Greece (Γαλλίας στην Ελλάδα), called for deeper bilateral ties. Speaking before politicians, diplomats and journalists, he said cultural links had long been strong and that cooperation in recent years had developed into what he described as a unique strategic relationship.

Kassianidis said President Emmanuel Macron stressed Greece’s importance to France when the ambassador took up his post. He called for continuing the path opened in April by Macron and Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis (Μακρόν – Μητσοτάκης). He also said he wanted the French embassy to be open to Greeks and to Greece.

Agriculture Minister Margaritis Schinas and Tourism Minister Olga Kefalogianni attended, as did ambassadors from Germany, the United Kingdom and South Korea. The report did not announce a new agreement or specific initiative to deepen cooperation.
