Former Orenburg National Guard deputy chief sentenced in bribery case

A court sentenced the former regional official to four years in a strict-regime prison, fined him 2.5 million rubles and confiscated the 330,000 rubles investigators said he accepted.

A district court in Orenburg sentenced a former deputy head of the region’s National Guard directorate to four years in a strict-regime prison in a bribery case. The regional Investigative Committee and local news outlets reported the ruling.

Investigators said he received a total of 330,000 rubles from representatives of four commercial organisations between 2023 and 2024. The companies trained private security guards and members of the public in the safe handling of firearms. In return, the official allegedly promised them general protection and preferential treatment in his official duties.

The court also imposed a 2.5 million-ruble fine and stripped him of the special rank of police colonel. It ordered the confiscation of 330,000 rubles, matching the amount of the bribes.

Local reports confirmed the amount and main elements of the sentence. They did not say whether the ruling had entered into force.
