A music program featuring Argentine performers is planned for the match against Benin at the Monumental; the Los Fundamentalistas guitarist is set to play at halftime.
Lionel Messi is playing his final match for Argentina on Tuesday, Oct. 6, when the team faces Benin at the Estadio Monumental. LA NACION reports that Argentine musicians will perform before the match and during halftime, including guitarist Gaspar Benegas.
Benegas was born in 1978 in El Bolsón, Río Negro, to a family with musical roots: his mother is singer María José Cantilo, and his uncle Miguel Cantilo is a member of the duo Pedro y Pablo. He began performing at a young age and later became the guitarist for Los Fundamentalistas del Aire Acondicionado, Indio Solari’s band. He has also played with Las Manos de Filippi and leads the trio La Mono.
According to the published schedule, the celebration will begin with cumbia group Un Poco de Ruido, followed by Sebastián Mendoza, Román el Original, Amar Azul and Santi Cairo. Q’ Lokura has a 20-minute set planned. Pablito Lescano and Damas Gratis are scheduled for 7 p.m., while Fabio Santana will sing Argentina’s national anthem before kickoff.
Benegas is set to perform during the halftime program. After the final whistle, organizers plan a drone and fireworks show, with Soledad Pastorutti and Ulises Bueno expected to close the evening. The AFA and FIFA confirm the Benin match as Messi’s farewell game; the performance schedule is reported by LA NACION.
