IndiGo raises fuel surcharges on flights from Oct. 6

Domestic fees will range from 375 to 1,300 rupees, while international charges will be between 1,000 and 10,000 rupees.

IndiGo will raise fuel charges on all domestic and international flights for new bookings made from 12:01 a.m. on October 6. The airline said the change follows a more than 14 per cent month-on-month rise in aviation turbine fuel costs, now among the highest in a decade.

Domestic surcharges will be distance-based: 375 rupees for routes up to 500 kilometres, 600 rupees for 501 to 1,000 kilometres, 900 rupees for 1,001 to 1,500 kilometres, 1,150 rupees for 1,501 to 2,000 kilometres and 1,300 rupees for longer flights. International fees will range from 1,000 to 10,000 rupees.

The carrier said fuel prices had been volatile in recent months, particularly amid geopolitical developments in the Middle East. Fuel is a significant share of airline operating costs and affects network economics.
