Rome forum urges pragmatic approach to electric-car transition

ROM-E participants cited prices, charging access and an ageing fleet as factors slowing electrification.

Experts at the ROM-E event in Rome, held Oct. 2–4, discussed the slower shift to electric transport. A PwC Strategy& Italy study found that Italy is catching up but still trails Europe’s leading markets.

Buyers weigh vehicle prices and resale value, home-charging access and uncertainty about technology. The Automobile Club of Italy said renewing the ageing fleet matters for emissions and road safety.

ROM-E reported 160 test drives and about 2,000 participating families. Fiat displayed the electric Topolino Sport alongside the hybrid 500 Hybrid Cabrio Dolcevita.
