Tripathi files contempt petition over Delhi transport restrictions

Advocate Shailendra Mani Tripathi approached India's Supreme Court on October 10, alleging that transport restrictions in Delhi breached the court's October 9 directions.
The petitioner seeks contempt proceedings against Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan, Delhi Police Commissioner Anurag Kumar and DMRC chairperson D. Thara. Moneycontrol reported that the filing was registered that morning under Diary No. 63801/2026.
The petition alleges that authorities continued broad restrictions ahead of protests seeking Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar's resignation. Tripathi cites Metro station closures, train cancellations and inadequate information for passengers.
The court's October 9 order said security measures should not become a complete prohibition on Metro and railway movement. Restrictions were to regulate travel proportionately without causing undue hardship to ordinary passengers. Authorities were asked to submit compliance reports within four days.
The allegations are the petitioner's position. The original report contains no judicial finding that the named officials were guilty of contempt.
DMRC announced on the evening of October 10 that all station entry and exit gates had reopened and interchange access was restored. The closure allegations therefore concern restrictions preceding that update.
