Lyanco scores own goal and late equalizer in Atlético-MG’s 2-2 draw

A stoppage-time goal by Lyanco earned Atlético-MG a 2-2 draw with Athletico-PR in Brazil’s 29th-round match. The defender had first scored an own goal.

The match was played at Arena da Baixada in Curitiba. Kerwin Vargas put the hosts ahead in the seventh minute after a move involving Esquivel and Gilberto. Bernard equalized midway through the first half with a free kick that deflected off Kevin Viveros.

Atlético lost Fred to an apparent injury to the back of his left thigh before halftime. Victor Hugo replaced him. The second half produced few clear chances for either team.

Tomás Pérez was sent off in the 27th minute of the second half for fouling Viveros as he advanced toward goal. In stoppage time, Viveros received the ball in the box and Lyanco, trying to stop the attack, turned it into his own net.

Lyanco made amends in the next sequence. He collected a pass from Thiago Borbas and scored from inside the area to level the match at 2-2 in the 51st minute of the second half.

The draw left Athletico’s bid to remain third dependent on Fluminense’s result against Coritiba. Atlético-MG missed a chance to move closer to the top five. Athletico are due to face Chapecoense on October 12, while Atlético host Santos on October 11.
