Madlanga Commission to hear Feroz Khan’s testimony behind closed doors

South Africa’s former deputy crime intelligence chief is expected to answer questions about evidence entered in his absence and his financial interests. The hearing will be held in camera.

The Madlanga Commission of Inquiry is scheduled to hear former deputy crime intelligence head Major-General Feroz Khan in camera on Tuesday, October 6. SABC reported that his appearance was delayed after he was shot and hospitalised in July, days before an earlier scheduled hearing.

The commission is expected to question Khan about evidence entered into the record on July 7 and 9, while he was absent. It also directed him to submit a statement on that evidence by noon on October 3.

Khan has been implicated in allegations concerning a kickback linked to an IT contract at the Treasury and the 2021 Aeroton drug bust in southern Johannesburg. The commission is also expected to ask about his finances and property. These matters remain allegations and questions for the inquiry, not findings of guilt.

Only the commission’s bench, evidence leaders, lawyers and Khan’s legal representative will have access to the hearing. The commission has prohibited the publication or broadcast of recordings of the in-camera proceedings.
