The Matildas forward will miss matches against Germany and Haiti because of “personal circumstances.” Football Australia gave no further details, and midfielder Leah Davidson has been called in as her replacement.
Mary Fowler has been withdrawn from Australia’s squad for the October international window and will miss friendlies against Germany and Haiti. Football Australia said the decision followed discussions between the player, Manchester City and Matildas staff. The organization did not provide further details.
The announcement came a day after Fowler came off the bench in Manchester City’s 4-2 Women’s Super League win over Arsenal. It was the 23-year-old’s 100th appearance for the club.
Charlton Athletic midfielder Leah Davidson, who has four caps for Australia, has replaced Fowler. Kyra Cooney-Cross was also left out of the squad for personal reasons, leaving coach Joe Montemurro without two players considered candidates to start in midfield.
Australia will play Germany in Karlsruhe on Saturday before facing Haiti in France on October 13. The friendlies form part of preparations for the 2027 Women’s World Cup in Brazil. Fowler has scored twice in seven appearances in all competitions for an unbeaten Manchester City this season.
