Mi-8 makes hard landing in Kamchatka and tips onto its side, crew unharmed

A Mi-8 helicopter made a hard landing near the Zhupanova River in Russia’s Kamchatka region and tipped onto its side. The Eastern Interregional Investigative Directorate for Transport said the aircraft was in the Yelizovsky district.

The helicopter was travelling from the Izluchina landing site toward the river, according to the agency. Three crew members were aboard and none was injured. The aircraft was damaged, including its rotor blades, and the cost of the damage is being assessed.

The crew notified emergency services, and a helicopter from a regional rescue base was sent to the area. Investigators and forensic specialists are examining the circumstances and cause of the hard landing. A procedural decision will follow the review.
