Florida State rolls past Virginia ahead of pivotal trip to Louisville

Mike Norvell’s team scored 38 unanswered points after falling behind. The Seminoles now have a chance to end a 10-game road losing streak.

Florida State beat Virginia by 31 points, giving Mike Norvell’s team a chance to reset its season. After falling behind early, the Seminoles scored the game’s final 38 points, including five rushing touchdowns by quarterback Ashton Daniels.

Norvell said players did not hang their heads after a couple of disappointing drives and praised the energy on the sideline. He said that resilience will be needed through the weeks ahead.

The win was the first step in a stretch that could shape Norvell’s future with the program. CBS Sports reported last month that he has a path to keep his job, with results against Virginia, Louisville, Miami and Clemson expected to matter. Florida State visits Louisville on Friday.

The game also gives the Seminoles a chance to end a 10-game losing streak in true road games. Their last such win came against Florida in 2023. Florida State is 3-2 overall and 1-1 in the Atlantic Coast Conference.

After Louisville, the Seminoles travel to face unbeaten, fourth-ranked Miami on Oct. 17. A bye week follows before a home game against Clemson. A strong first half of the schedule, the report said, would make bowl eligibility more attainable.
