Moscow begins building new electric sightseeing boats

The two-deck vessels will carry up to 168 passengers. The city plans to launch as many as 14 by the end of 2028.

Construction has begun at the Moscow Shipyard on a series of sightseeing electric boats called Moskva 3.0, Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said. The first four hulls were laid down in the summer, with four more planned soon.

The two-deck vessels will be more than 35 metres long and eight metres wide, with capacity for up to 168 passengers each. Their electric engines are designed to operate quietly without harmful exhaust emissions.

Up to 14 boats are expected to be launched by the end of 2028. They are intended gradually to replace a sightseeing fleet of more than 160 motor vessels, each at least 40 years old.
