Canadian basketball player Shai Gilgeous-Alexander has joined Atlético de Madrid’s ownership group. The club confirmed the move on October 8 but did not disclose the size of his investment.
The Oklahoma City Thunder guard became a club investor after winning back-to-back NBA Most Valuable Player awards and the 2025 championship. Atlético said the partnership reflects shared values of ambition, excellence and the belief that achievements must be earned.
Gilgeous-Alexander said he was excited to officially join the ownership group and become part of the club’s future. He was born in Toronto in 1998 and raised in Hamilton, Ontario, before attending the University of Kentucky and beginning his professional career.
During the 2025–26 season, he averaged 31.1 points per game while shooting 55.3% from the field, Atlético said. The club also cited his NBA record streak of 140 consecutive regular-season games with at least 20 points.
Neither side disclosed the financial terms of the deal or the size of the player’s stake. Atlético described the investment as part of its long-term development and international growth.
