NBC reports watchdog investigation of Kimberly Guilfoyle and U.S. Embassy in Greece

The State Department's inspector general is investigating Ambassador Kimberly Guilfoyle and the embassy she leads in Greece, NBC reported, citing two people familiar with the decision.
The report comes amid allegations by legal consultant and Donald Trump supporter Eric Deters. He says Guilfoyle asked him to pay a $100,000 American Express bill before her 2025 confirmation hearing in exchange for access to senior administration officials. Deters says he did not make the payment. RIA Novosti reported the investigation on October 10.
Deters supplied NBC with correspondence. Guilfoyle's lawyer did not respond to the network, but previously told The Wall Street Journal that she disputed the messages' authenticity. The inspector general's office declined to confirm or deny an investigation, and the State Department also declined comment. A reported investigation does not establish wrongdoing, and Deters' accusations remain allegations.
