Nigeria coach says cold is an unfamiliar factor before Russia friendly

Eric Chelle compared about 4°C in Nizhny Novgorod with 35–40°C at Nigeria’s previous match. The friendly is set for Oct. 6 at 7 p.m. Moscow time.

Nigeria coach Eric Chelle called the cold in Nizhny Novgorod an unfamiliar condition ahead of the team’s friendly against Russia. He compared temperatures of about 4°C in the city with 35–40°C at Nigeria’s previous match.

“The difference is very big. We are adapting to these conditions,” Chelle said. He thanked the organizers and said it was important for his team to test itself against a strong opponent. In comments to the Russian Football Union, he also said some first-team players could not travel, giving younger players a chance to feature.

The match is scheduled for Oct. 6 at Nizhny Novgorod Stadium, with kickoff at 7 p.m. Moscow time. The Russian Football Union says it will conclude the national team’s training camp. Russia previously beat Iran 2-0 and Namibia 6-0.
