Bengaluru museum to unveil installation made from 200 gold-plated coins

Rezwan Razack’s Museum of Indian Paper Money in Bengaluru will put a numismatic composition of 200 gold-plated 1955 one-pice coins on public display on October 8.

The museum said the work is framed in black and gold. A central monogram and decorative motifs bring the coins together in an ornate composition intended as a commemorative artwork.

The project focuses on a small denomination that formed part of the currency of a young India after independence. Organizers describe the installation as a way to show how an everyday coin can become part of the story of the country’s monetary history.

The Bengaluru museum collects, documents and displays material on the history of Indian paper currency and monetary circulation. The new composition will be open to visitors on Thursday, October 8.
