Packers fear Achilles tear could end Edgerrin Cooper’s season

Green Bay fears linebacker Edgerrin Cooper suffered a torn Achilles in Sunday’s 17-14 win over Tampa Bay. The injury is still being evaluated, and no tear has been confirmed.

Green Bay’s 17-14 win over Tampa Bay came with a potentially major setback: the Packers fear linebacker Edgerrin Cooper tore his Achilles, according to sources cited by CBS Sports. The injury was still being evaluated after Sunday’s game, so a tear had not been confirmed.

Coach Matt LaFleur said Cooper’s Achilles injury was “not good” and that he suspected it could end the season. The 24-year-old was carted off after recording nine tackles and a sack against the Buccaneers.

Cooper, a 2024 second-round pick from Texas A&M, had emerged as one of Green Bay’s promising young linebackers. He recorded 205 total tackles in his first two seasons with the Packers. Before Sunday’s injury, he had 30 tackles and three sacks through the first three and a half games of this season.

Green Bay improved to 2-2 with the win and is scheduled to face the 3-1 Chicago Bears next week. The club’s concern over Cooper remains provisional until his injury is fully evaluated.
