Pastora Soler to close 30th-anniversary tour in Madrid

Spanish singer Pastora Soler will give the final concert of her “Rosas y Espinas” tour on October 10 at Madrid’s Teatro Real de Retiro. In an interview with ABC, she reflected on stage fright, therapy and changes in the music industry.

The two-year “Rosas y Espinas” tour celebrated three decades of Soler’s career. Its final performance is scheduled for Saturday at Madrid’s Teatro Real de Retiro. Soler told ABC she feels nostalgic rather than nervous as the project ends.

She said the tour gave her a chance to take stock of her career. Her success came gradually, and starting out in copla brought labels she had to overcome. A long career, she said, requires perseverance and a steady supply of new goals.

In the interview, Soler also revisited her decision to step away from music eight years ago after two severe episodes of stage fright. She said therapy and support from her family helped her recover. She continues therapy and believes remembering the experience helps her recognize warning signs and stay balanced during demanding periods.

The Ondas lifetime achievement award winner praised younger musicians and the access to music from around the world offered by digital platforms. She welcomed the fact that women can now fill stadiums. Reggaeton is less to her taste than other genres. Soler said she bans some songs at home because of their lyrics, particularly when the audience includes children aged 11 to 13.

At 48, Soler is not planning to retire while her health allows her to sing. She exercises and works on her vocal technique, including weekly lessons with a coach. She said her repertoire places considerable demands on her voice.
