Army Maj. Nidal Hasan, convicted of killing 13 people at Fort Hood in 2009, is scheduled to be executed by firing squad on December 3. The date was set in a memorandum by the acting U.S. Army secretary.
The execution of former U.S. Army Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan is scheduled for December 3, 2026, at 1 p.m. Texas time at Fort Hood. The date appears in a memorandum by acting Army Secretary Adam Telle, cited by RIA Novosti. President Donald Trump previously approved the death sentence.
Hasan was convicted in the November 5, 2009, attack at the military base. The Army psychiatrist opened fire on service members at a center preparing personnel for deployment overseas. Thirteen people were killed and 32 wounded. Responding police officers seriously injured Hasan; he was left paralyzed below the waist and taken into custody.
RIA Novosti reports that the execution would be the first firing-squad execution of a convicted U.S. service member since World War II. The Associated Press says the U.S. military has not carried out an execution since 1961. According to AP, Hasan may still seek review in federal court, a process that could delay the execution.
