Rospotrebnadzor completes anti-epidemic measures in Irkutsk region

Rospotrebnadzor said on Oct. 7 that anti-epidemic measures in the Irkutsk region had been completed. The agency said tests found no microorganisms linked to the work of an ill employee at the Irkutsk Anti-Plague Research Institute, and no infection-related changes in health among people who had contact with her.

The case had prompted checks and an extraordinary meeting of the regional sanitary and anti-epidemic commission attended by Rospotrebnadzor head Anna Popova. Regional Governor Igor Kobzev had said the situation was under strict control.

The agency said laboratory tests found no pathogens in the woman linked to her professional activities. Checks of people who had contact with her also found no health changes that could be associated with an infectious disease.

Local media earlier reported that the employee had pneumonia of unknown origin. Rospotrebnadzor said the sanitary and epidemiological situation remained stable in the Irkutsk region, the city of Irkutsk and Shelekhov. The agency did not name the dangerous infection mentioned by the governor.
