Non-influenza viruses accounted for 98.5% of respiratory viruses detected in monitoring, with rhinoviruses the largest group.
Swine flu, parainfluenza and rhinoviruses are circulating in Russia, the consumer safety watchdog Rospotrebnadzor said. Its viral monitoring found that 98.5% of detected respiratory viruses were not influenza viruses.
Rhinoviruses accounted for 53% of the monitored viruses and parainfluenza for 14.5%. Influenza viruses made up 1.5%. The agency said detections included influenza A(H1N1), B and C.
For prevention, Rospotrebnadzor advised people to avoid crowded places and limit contact with others if they develop symptoms. It also recommended airing indoor spaces regularly and washing hands often with soap or using antiseptic.
