Russia targets at least 2,500 sports medicine doctors in state healthcare by 2036

Russia aims to have at least two thousand five hundred sports medicine doctors working in its state healthcare system by 2036, under a government strategy reported by RIA Novosti.

The document puts the current number in those positions at one thousand three hundred twenty-eight. The planned near-doubling applies specifically to the state healthcare system.

The strategy also envisages anti-doping training for at least five thousand specialists. At least two thousand elite athletes are to receive scientific and analytical support for their medical and biological care.

By 2036, unified programmes of in-depth medical examinations are intended to cover at least three hundred fifty thousand national team athletes exposed to exceptionally high workloads. Sports medicine services are to be accessible to all regional team athletes, including through outreach work.

The first implementation stage runs until 2030 and provides for establishing the system and beginning its expansion. The second stage, ending in 2036, is intended to complete that expansion. The Federal Medical and Biological Agency will coordinate the three-tier system at federal level.
