São Paulo state reports 112 election-related incidents and 59 detentions

The state public security secretariat said 95 of the reported incidents involved campaigning near polling places as of 7 p.m. Sunday.

São Paulo state’s Public Security Secretariat recorded 112 incidents during its Election 2026 operation. By 7 p.m. on Sunday, 59 people had been detained, and 95 of the reported cases involved campaigning near polling places.

In the state capital, authorities counted 24 incidents, including 19 cases of polling-place campaigning, three instances of support to other agencies and two disputes. Nineteen people were detained there.

The Ribeirão Preto region reported 13 incidents, including 11 campaigning cases, one dispute and one inquiry. Two people were detained and 1,782 reais seized. The Santos region recorded 12 incidents, eight detentions and two weapons seized. Campinas reported eight cases, including six campaigning incidents, a traffic accident and a fireworks-related explosion. Five people were detained.

The secretariat also reported 12 incidents in the Presidente Prudente region, with no detentions, and 10 in Bauru, where seven people were detained. The statewide total was reported separately from the regional breakdown.
