São Paulo to replace shirt sponsor branding before Cruzeiro match

The club will put the Superscore app logo on its shirts in place of betting company Superbet. The change comes as Brazil’s ban on betting platforms takes effect.

São Paulo FC has arranged a temporary replacement for its main shirt sponsor ahead of Wednesday’s match against Cruzeiro, on Oct. 7. Superscore, a football statistics app owned by the same company, will appear on the shirt in place of Superbet.

CNN Brasil, citing Brazilian radio station Itatiaia, reported that the agreement has no set end date and is expected to remain in place while the future status of betting businesses in the country is addressed. In a club statement, Superscore was described as a free results and statistics service that does not display odds or betting offers. That description comes from the company and is not an independent assessment of the product.

Licensed betting websites and apps in Brazil stopped operating on Oct. 6 under a temporary government measure. The country’s Ministry of Justice said platforms went offline by the deadline. São Paulo is scheduled to face Cruzeiro at Mineirão Stadium in the 29th round of the Brazilian championship.
