Pakistani state media said security forces killed 13 militants in an intelligence-based operation in North Waziristan, in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.
Pakistan TV carried the claim, citing security sources. It identified the dead as members of the banned Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), using the state’s label Fitna al-Khawarij. Dawn’s report did not provide independent confirmation of the death toll.
Dawn said state media had reported five militants killed in a separate operation in North Waziristan the previous day. In August, the province recorded 54 attacks, up from 36 in July, an increase of 50 percent, according to data from the Pakistan Institute for Conflict and Security Studies.
Dawn also summarized recent security operations and attacks in the province, including a September 26 bombing at a police checkpoint in Darazinda that killed 12 people and injured 35, and a September 18 attack in Kohat that killed 23 people. The report attributed these figures to state media and the research institute.
