Seven countries express interest in hosting the 2036 Olympics

Germany, Hungary, India, Qatar, South Korea, South Africa and Türkiye are considering hosting the 2036 Summer Games. The IOC has set out the next stages of the selection process, with mid-2029 as the target for choosing a host.

An This is an expression of interest, not a final list of formal bids. Interested parties can submit proposals by October 31.

In November, participants are due to present their projects to the IOC’s Future Host Commission in a virtual format. The committee plans to assess their feasibility by March 2027. The IOC Executive Board will then open a strategic dialogue, during which the commission is expected to visit proposed regions and prepare a report.

A targeted dialogue with a group of preferred candidates is planned for December 2028. IOC members are expected to choose the host at a session in mid-2029. The Associated Press previously reported that the selection is scheduled for 2029. Researchers at the German Sport University Cologne have also said the IOC is discussing future Games with around ten potential hosts.
