Sindh court suspends disputed K-Electric tariff orders

The Sindh High Court temporarily halted challenged orders related to the utility’s multi-year tariff review and set the next hearing for October 15.

The Sindh High Court in Karachi suspended notifications and orders issued by the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) appellate tribunal in a dispute over the review of K-Electric’s multi-year tariff. It also issued notices to NEPRA, the Power Division and other respondents. The next hearing is set for October 15, Dawn reported. K-Electric separately confirmed the interim relief in a disclosure to the Pakistan Stock Exchange, reported by business outlets.

The dispute concerns tribunal decisions from September 2026 and NEPRA review determinations from October 2025. K-Electric is challenging how the regulator changed tariff determinations covering 2024–2030 and power generation, transmission and distribution. The company’s lawyer, Ayan Memon, argued in court that the authority to review a decision does not amount to the authority to set the tariff afresh.

K-Electric’s counsel said the decisions affect how subsidies are allocated and could affect the company’s and consumers’ costs through fuel adjustments. That is the company’s position in the dispute, not a finding by the court. The order is interim: the court has not decided the merits and has sought responses from the respondents.
