St Petersburg plans exhibitions and restoration for Pushkin Museum’s 150th anniversary

St Petersburg is preparing new displays, exhibitions and restoration work for the All-Russian Pushkin Museum’s 150th anniversary. A preliminary programme contains about 30 events for 2027–2029, the governor’s administration said.

Preparations were discussed at an organising committee meeting opened by Deputy Prime Minister Tatyana Golikova. She said the anniversary should help define the museum’s future and engage younger audiences with Pushkin’s legacy. The president has instructed officials to organise the anniversary celebrations in 2029.

Governor Alexander Beglov said the plan includes new displays at Pushkin’s memorial apartment at 12 Moika Embankment and other institutions, a travelling exhibition titled Pushkin Forever!, festivals, forums and a reprint of the first edition of Eugene Onegin. Restoration of the facades and fence of the Gavriil Derzhavin estate museum is also planned.

Beglov said the city was approving work projects for museum properties. The museum participates in the Silver Age programme, which allows older residents free visits using an electronic certificate. Culture Minister Olga Lyubimova said an anniversary objective was to make Pushkin memorial sites accessible to people across Russia.

The museum traces its history to 1879, when an exhibition dedicated to Pushkin opened at the Imperial Alexander Lyceum. The complex now includes the poet’s Moika apartment, the lyceum and country-house museums in Pushkin, the Derzhavin estate and the Nikolai Nekrasov memorial apartment.
