In a survey of about 3,000 Russians by the Vybери.ru service, 54% said they had called back a missed or suspicious number at least once in the past year.
About 3,000 people aged 18 to 65 took part in the survey. RIA Novosti reported the results of the Vybери.ru study; its report did not specify how participants were recruited or give a margin of error, so the figures describe the survey sample.
Women were more likely than men to first try to identify the caller: 29% of women and 21% of men said they did so. Men more often said they immediately ended a suspicious call, at 66%, compared with 58% of women.
Blocking a number was the most common protective measure, used by 42% of respondents. Another 27% enabled automatic detection of suspicious calls, 19% installed apps or subscribed to call-filtering services, and 12% said they prefer not to answer calls from unknown numbers.
