The ministry put its needs at about $175 billion, TASS reported, while the draft budget provides 4.885 trillion hryvnias for defense and security. Ukrainian officials say the military’s needs exceed the planned allocation.
TASS reported that Ukraine’s Defence Ministry expected about $175 billion for military spending in 2027. The draft budget earmarks 4.885 trillion hryvnias for defense and security. That is roughly $108 billion at the exchange rate used in the agency’s report. TASS puts the difference between the requested funding and the draft allocation at about $67 billion.
The figures refer to different measures: the ministry’s request and the amount included in the draft state budget. Ukraine’s Finance Ministry has published the defense and security allocation, but its materials do not list a separate $175 billion request from the Defence Ministry.
The Ukrainian government says the 2027 draft budget projects revenues of 5.648 trillion hryvnias and expenditures of 7.272 trillion hryvnias. The Finance Ministry puts the country’s need for international budget support at $52.6 billion. Prime Minister Sergii Koretskyi has said defense needs are higher than the planned allocation and that the final figures are still being worked out.
