Maksim Khashirov recommends removing tar and resin, treating glass with a water-repellent coating, and checking seals and drainage holes.
Maksim Khashirov, a specialist with TopClean, told Lenta.ru how to care for a car during October’s changeable weather. He divided the work into three areas: the body and paintwork, windows and lighting, and exterior details and seals.
In mid-autumn, Khashirov recommends thoroughly washing the car to remove tar, resin and road grime, then drying it straight away. He advises applying a protective finish such as wax, sealant or a ceramic coating. Even wax, he said, helps keep dirt from sticking and makes later washes easier.
Clean the windows inside and out: Khashirov said residue on the inside can reduce visibility in fog. A hydrophobic treatment, often called an anti-rain coating, can then help droplets run off instead of being smeared by the wipers. He said it can also be used on side windows and headlights.
Before colder weather, the specialist suggests treating rubber seals around the doors, boot and bonnet with silicone lubricant, and using a water-repellent spray on hinges and locks. He also recommends checking the drainage holes in doors and sills because blockages can trap water and contribute to corrosion.
For upkeep between detailing visits, Khashirov listed a tar remover, a product for metal deposits, wax or sealant, a hydrophobic glass treatment, silicone lubricant, and products for leather and plastic. Motoring organisations also advise regularly washing away road salt and grime, especially from underneath the vehicle, because deposits can accelerate corrosion. Khashirov previously discussed difficult car-interior odours, including tobacco smoke, spilled food and technical fluids, as well as animal smells.
