Turkey hosts Nusret-2026 mine countermeasures exercise

The drills run from Oct. 6 to 16 in the Gulf of Izmir and near Ereğli on the Black Sea, involving forces and specialists from several countries.

Turkey is hosting the international Nusret-2026 mine countermeasures exercise. The drills run from Oct. 6 to 16 in the Gulf of Izmir and near Ereğli on the Black Sea, the Turkish Ministry of National Defence said.

Participants include Turkey's naval and air forces, its coast guard, ships from NATO's Standing NATO Mine Countermeasures Group 2 and the MCM Black Sea group, along with mine-clearance teams and autonomous underwater vehicles. Countries represented include Turkey, Germany, Spain, Italy, Greece, Bulgaria and Romania.

RIA Novosti reported that 20 ships and five aircraft are taking part. Another 32 personnel from 18 countries are attending as observers. The exercise is intended to improve the planning and execution of mine countermeasures and the interoperability of multinational forces.
