Tuva court sentences man over attack on children at Orlyonok camp

He received two and a half years of forced labor, while the state prosecutor appealed the sentence as too lenient.

A court in Tuva’s Tandinsky District sentenced a local man to two years and six months of forced labor for attacking children at the Orlyonok camp. The regional prosecutor’s office said 15 percent of his wages would be withheld for the state. The state prosecutor appealed, arguing that the punishment was too lenient.

The incident took place on the night of June 21 at the camp near Lake Chagytai. Police previously said an intoxicated man entered the grounds, injured at least 14 children and damaged furniture. Investigators opened a hooliganism case.

The prosecutor’s office said the court partly granted a civil claim for emotional harm to the children, awarding a total of 275,000 rubles to the victims. RIA Novosti’s report did not say when the appeal would be heard.
